|Lauren B. Langer|
Ms. Langer serves as Assistant City Attorney for the Cities of Lomita and Hermosa Beach, including serving as counsel to their planning commissions, and regularly advises the West Hollywood Planning Department and Malibu Environmental Programs Department.
Ms. Langer also works closely with many of the firm’s clients on land use, planning and environmental law matters, such as Clean Water Act, NPDES and CEQA compliance and advises our clients on all other legal issues associated with municipal law practice. Ms. Langer worked with city staff to prepare the City of Malibu’s ordinance banning plastic shopping bags, the first such ban in Southern California, and after working with a task force of staff, residents and business owners, she drafted an ordinance prohibiting smoking in outdoor dining areas in West Hollywood. Ms. Langer also handles enforcement and regulatory matters with the State and Regional Water Boards and litigation matters for the firm’s clients.
Before joining Jenkins & Hogin in 2006, Ms. Langer gained valuable experience representing cities and other public entities as a law clerk and associate at a municipal law firm and by working on a special legislative task force at the Los Angeles Housing Department.
Between 2009- 2010, she completed the New Leaders Project, a program focusing on active civic engagement and community service opportunities in Los Angeles. She also served as the Project’s Alumni Co-Chair in 2011-2012.
In 2010, Ms. Langer co-authored The Legal Basis for Allowing Medical Marijuana Operations for Western City Magazine. In 2012, she co-authored Municipal Regulation of Medical Marijuana: A Comprehensive Review of Federal and State Law, for the League of California Cities City Attorneys’ Department and presented the paper at the Department’s Spring Conference.
Ms. Langer currently serves on the League of California Cities City Attorneys’ Department Medical Marijuana Committee. She also regularly presents on Clean Water Act and NPDES issues.
Ms. Langer received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law.
